OVERVIEW
The goal of the testing was the evaluation of users ease of RSVPing to a event they are invited to, adding the event to their personal calendar, changing what they are bringing to the event, as well as how effective their touch and motion gestures in the app are. To achieve this, we had conducted moderated user testing research that was recorded visually and audibly. In this report, we had given an analysis of each task and given recommendations.
While the app has been working well for users to schedule, invite others and communicate about events, there are still some pain points we discovered that affect users, especially new or unfamiliar users to the app.
This project was completed as a group.
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
We used individual surveys to find 9 users to test the site from the comfort of their own home and using their own smart phone. These tests were moderated and the user’s experience was captured visually (through screen mirroring) and audibly (through voice recording). The user group consisted of men and women ranging from late 20’s to mid 50’s. All users were familiar with event organizing apps like Sign Up Genius, even if they had not specifically used Sign Up Genius before.
KEY FINDINGS
1. Users that had previously used the app were not happy about having to login to use the app as they had forgotten their credentials.
2. For most of the users, while they thought the design was simple they did not care for the aesthetics or overall design of the app.
3. While the RSVP button and edit buttons were simple for most users to find, the add to calendar function seemed confusing based on the location and terminology used in the app.
4. Users were able to find most buttons to complete tasks but many “fat-fingered” the buttons as many were too close together, taking users to pages they did not desire to go to.
5. Most users were confused by the visual cues that they had sent an email to themselves to add to calender, resulting in frustration and upwards of 12 duplicate emails to themselves.
KEY RECOMMENDATIONS
1. Provide users with a one-time login function to prevent frustration.
2. Look at a complete overall redesign of the app, bringing it into a more modern looking design.
3. Provide users with a clear add to calendar button.
4. Redesign the buttons to give more room for touch gestures to prevent “fat-fingering”.
5. Provide users with clearer visual or tactile cues when actions have been performed.
6. Eliminate huge ads for games and shopping toward the top of the app, as well as confusing ads in between actions.
